Smaller iPhones?

Well, I have been quite silent about some of the iPhone chatter going around… But I have decided to throw in my 5 cents…

Will there be a smaller form factor? I seriously doubt it. If the iPhone is made any smaller, then I believe it will be at least the size of the current touch screen… Anything smaller would reduce the usefulness of the product.
It will be a streaming only device? Doubtful. Unless Apple starts using the new data center for streaming content, I doubt that Apple would allow online streaming of video content. Possibly for Audio, but doubtful for Video.
Dual Core? I suspect this has a grain of truth in it, simply because of the need for processor upgrades…
Flash support? Never…
Slide out Keyboard? Doubtful. I give it 10-1 odds against… There’s too many parts, and the keyboard would be a major step backwards…

Congratulations to Perceptive Automation on the Indigo Touch 1.7 release.

From the Release Notes:

We are excited to announce that Indigo Touch 1.7 has been approved by Apple and is now available in the App Store. New features include:

Support for iOS 4 multitasking — commands will finish executing and images will continue to load even if the Home button is pressed. Load times should be quite a bit faster as well.

iPhone 4 Retina-compatible UI images — built-in images should look much sharper. Note Control Pages still use lower resolution images. We hope to have that addressed in a future major release.

Improved device and variable popup UI appearance.

And a workaround for the iOS Bluetooth bug which causes Wi-Fi connections to drop out upon launching Indigo.

Just like the previous version of Indigo Touch, version 1.7 is also free. All you need is Indigo 4.1 Lite or Pro, then download Indigo Touch from Apple’s App Store. Also note it is a universal binary application — the same app runs as a native app on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

iPhone Configuration Utility lets you easily create, maintain, encrypt, and install configuration profiles, track and install provisioning profiles and authorized applications, and capture device information including console logs.

Configuration profiles are XML files that contain device security policies, VPN configuration information, Wi-Fi settings, APN settings, Exchange account settings, mail settings, and certificates that permit iPhone and iPod touch to work with your enterprise systems.

AT&T – The Worst Cellular service in the US?

If there ever was any proof that Apple needs to move the iPhone to other carriers, I believe we just found it. According to Consumer Reports, AT&T provides the worst Value, Service, and Consumer Support than any of the other major carriers… T-Mobile is even rated higher than AT&T.

Does this really surprise the AT&T users? I have frequent drop outs, especially when inside a building… Plus, my own house seems to have a dead zone, in one room.

While AT&T may claim that they have made major changes in their network, and that they are building in more capacity, that seems at odds with their “Free Wi-Fi” hotspots that they have placed in some of the major cities….

I personally don’t see how Apple can justify any continuation of the exclusivity contract with AT&T for the iPhone…
