{"id":1400,"date":"2009-07-06T08:40:56","date_gmt":"2009-07-06T12:40:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.schollnick.net\/wordpress\/?p=1400"},"modified":"2009-07-06T08:40:59","modified_gmt":"2009-07-06T12:40:59","slug":"schneier-on-security-terrorist-risk-of-cloud-computing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.schollnick.net\/wordpress\/2009\/07\/schneier-on-security-terrorist-risk-of-cloud-computing\/","title":{"rendered":"Schneier on Security: Terrorist Risk of Cloud Computing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bruce Schneier has an compelling piece up today, debunking a piece in &#8220;Dark Reading&#8221; regarding the potential for a terrorist attack on &#8220;cloud servers&#8221;.  <\/p>\n<p>Please take a look at Bruce&#8217;s evaluation of the threat&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.schneier.com\/blog\/archives\/2009\/07\/terrorist_risk.html\">Schneier on Security: Terrorist Risk of Cloud Computing<\/a>: &#8220;Terrorist Risk of Cloud Computing&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But in my opinion, there is a risk, but only due to two reasons:<\/p>\n<p>1) Poor design &#038; management of the cloud servers.  They would be at risk, only if they did not properly have a secondary site, along with off site backups.<\/p>\n<p>2) Poor design &#038; management of the data center.  I can foresee the potential for having large data centers, but once again, if those servers in the data centers are not backed up offsite, and have offsite roll-over servers then they are vulnerable to be taken &#8220;out&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, a properly managed company would have this figured up with their disaster recovery plans.  <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bruce Schneier has an compelling piece up today, debunking a piece in &#8220;Dark Reading&#8221; regarding the potential for a terrorist attack on &#8220;cloud servers&#8221;.
