{"id":2075,"date":"2009-12-04T14:11:38","date_gmt":"2009-12-04T18:11:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.schollnick.net\/wordpress\/?p=2075"},"modified":"2009-12-04T14:11:38","modified_gmt":"2009-12-04T18:11:38","slug":"wireless-ready-the-new-deception","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.schollnick.net\/wordpress\/2009\/12\/wireless-ready-the-new-deception\/","title":{"rendered":"Wireless Ready, the new deception?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When did the word &#8220;Ready&#8221; get redefined?<\/p>\n<p>Definitions of\u00c2\u00a0<strong>ready<\/strong> on the Web:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-size: small; font-family: arial, sans-serif;\" type=\"disc\">\n<li>completely prepared or in condition for immediate action or use or progress; &#8220;get ready&#8221;; &#8220;she is ready to resign&#8221;; &#8220;the bridge is ready to &#8230;<\/li>\n<li>mentally disposed; &#8220;he was ready to believe her&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>cook: prepare for eating by applying heat; &#8220;Cook me dinner, please&#8221;; &#8220;can you make me an omelette?&#8221;; &#8220;fix breakfast for the guests, please&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>made suitable and available for immediate use; &#8220;dinner is ready&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>fix: make ready or suitable or equip in advance for a particular purpose or for some use, event, etc; &#8220;Get the children ready for school!&#8221;; &#8220;prepare for war&#8221;; &#8220;I was fixing to leave town after I paid the hotel bill&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>poised for action; &#8220;their guns were at the ready&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What do I mean? \u00c2\u00a0Well, I just purchased a Epson Workforce 310 printer, and look&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.schollnick.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/icon_ethernet-wireless_80x80.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2076\" title=\"icon_ethernet-wireless_80x80.gif\" src=\"http:\/\/www.schollnick.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/icon_ethernet-wireless_80x80.gif\" alt=\"icon_ethernet-wireless_80x80.gif\" width=\"80\" height=\"80\" \/><\/a> It&#8217;s Wireless ready&#8230; \u00c2\u00a0I should just be able to use it on a wireless network&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Nope. \u00c2\u00a0Evidently, if you plug the ethernet into a wireless router, or wireless bridge, or some form of wireless based network, then the printer is now considered wireless ready&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Is it just me, or is this a new low for trick advertising? \u00c2\u00a0Oh don&#8217;t get me wrong, I&#8217;ll be keeping the printer, but I dislike this &#8220;clever&#8221; bit of advertising. \u00c2\u00a0It just means that next time, I&#8217;ll think twice before purchasing an Epson.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When did the word &#8220;Ready&#8221; get redefined?
