{"id":2638,"date":"2010-03-09T15:22:54","date_gmt":"2010-03-09T19:22:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.schollnick.net\/wordpress\/?p=2638"},"modified":"2010-03-09T15:24:10","modified_gmt":"2010-03-09T19:24:10","slug":"star-trek-d-a-c-for-mac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.schollnick.net\/wordpress\/2010\/03\/star-trek-d-a-c-for-mac\/","title":{"rendered":"Star Trek D.A.C. for Mac"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I hate to sound like a me-too-er, but this pretty much sums up my thoughts on\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/themacgamer.com\/2010\/03\/09\/star-trek-dac-for-mac\/\">Star Trek D.A.C. for Mac<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t believe that I was suckered into purchasing it for $9.95&#8230; \u00c2\u00a0Simply don&#8217;t do it. \u00c2\u00a0Instead go find a copy of Asteroids, and you&#8217;ll be much happier&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, 'Lucida Sans Unicode', Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 21px; font-size: 12px; color: #444444;\"><em>Star Trek: D.A.C.<\/em> (Deathmatch. Assault. Conquest) is not a crap movie tie-in. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a mediocre shooter that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s had the art direction of the new Star Trek movie grafted onto it like a bad Borg implant. Everything from the bridge sounds in the main menu to the sounds of weapons fire feel tacked on. Let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s set aside any pre-tense that this is a game of the same calibre as the movie. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not, but that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s okay.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, 'Lucida Sans Unicode', Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 21px; font-size: 12px; color: #444444;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', 'Bitstream Charter', Times, serif; line-height: 19px; font-size: 13px;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve only played it for 10-20 minutes, and regret the purchase. \u00c2\u00a0Yes, it has a Macintosh version as well as a PC, which was one reason I purchased it. \u00c2\u00a0But, there&#8217;s no story, it&#8217;s not the star ship combat simulator that they imply. \u00c2\u00a0There is no customization of your star ship, except through power-ups.<\/p>\n<p>It feels mushy, and it&#8217;s hard to steer, and a variety of other issues&#8230; \u00c2\u00a0Overall, I don&#8217;t see the reply value of this game. \u00c2\u00a0I would bet money on the fact that someone at Paramount said, &#8220;How do we cash in on the movie&#8221;, and when they couldn&#8217;t figure out a decent way to convert the movie plot to a shooter, they just threw things in the air, and made this cheap shooter.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, on a scale of 1 to 5&#8230;. \u00c2\u00a0Here&#8217;s my breakdown:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>+2 for a Macintosh Port<\/li>\n<li>+1 for good visual effects<\/li>\n<li>-1 for misleading advertising \/ box cover<\/li>\n<li>-1 for poor to no replay value<\/li>\n<li>-1 Simply no plot<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So what&#8217;s the verdict? \u00c2\u00a0ZERO. \u00c2\u00a0And I think I have been generous&#8230;..Save your money spend it on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.positech.co.uk\/gratuitousspacebattles\/\">Gratuitous Space Battles instead<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I hate to sound like a me-too-er, but this pretty much sums up my thoughts on\u00c2\u00a0Star Trek D.A.C. for Mac.
