{"id":4017,"date":"2010-08-26T13:02:38","date_gmt":"2010-08-26T17:02:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.schollnick.net\/wordpress\/?p=4017"},"modified":"2010-08-26T13:02:38","modified_gmt":"2010-08-26T17:02:38","slug":"how-many-access-points-are-recommended-for-insteon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.schollnick.net\/wordpress\/2010\/08\/how-many-access-points-are-recommended-for-insteon\/","title":{"rendered":"How many access points are recommended (for Insteon)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, this is a tricky question, since there is no one answer that is correct.<\/p>\n<p>First, use the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.perceptiveautomation.com\/indigo\/download\/applications\/iHealth.zip\">Insteon Health Tool<\/a>, run it a few times, and get a decent average to see what s working and what is not.<\/p>\n<p>Second, pull out your existing SignalLinc, and AccessLincs, and try the health tool again.<\/p>\n<p>Next, with the SignalLinc and Accesspoints still disconnected, attempt to optimize your setup as is using the Insteon Health Tool. \u00c2\u00a0If you have Dual-Band devices, can you switch them around to get optimal coverage? \u00c2\u00a0etc.<\/p>\n<p>Then introduce the AccessLincs back and test again. \u00c2\u00a0Does changing the outlet with the Accesspoints improve the performance? \u00c2\u00a0Once your satisfied, if you have any signallincs, add them back in, checking different outlets to see if it makes a difference.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, the average Access point count is usually been 2-4 depending on the size of the house, if it&#8217;s a multiple floor building, etc.. \u00c2\u00a0But with the Dual Band devices coming out, it reduces the need for SignalLincs \/ AccessLincs. \u00c2\u00a0A safe recommendation is that if\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0possible, when purchasing hardware, purchase dual-band devices&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>In my house, I have 2 AccessLincs, and 2 signallincs&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Also, remember, Signallincs are not AccessLincs. \u00c2\u00a0AccessLincs have a different center frequency, data rate, and better RF hardware. \u00c2\u00a0I also believe that the Signallincs just repeat the command received by the other signallinc. \u00c2\u00a0It is simple a repeater, whereas the AccessLincs will also handle as a RF transceiver. \u00c2\u00a0 So remember to have your Wireless devices near a AccessLinc, not a Signallinc.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, this is a tricky question, since there is no one answer that is correct.
