There is still no better way to find out what\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s on than to flip through channels.<\/p>\n<p>Apple TV, the Boxee Box, Google TV, Hulu, Roku, and a sundry of desktop (and now mobile) applications comprise a compelling alternative to traditional cable TV service. My colleague Harry McCracken has them all pretty well covered.<\/p>\n<p>I know many people who have \u00e2\u20ac\u0153unplugged\u00e2\u20ac\u009d themselves from the shackles of costly year-long contracts. Why pay for channels that you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t watch? Those people are typically more technically savvy than most of the population. I just recently upgraded my mother\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 1980s big screen TV to an HDTV.<\/p>\n<p>My mother and I find what\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s on TV in much the same way: we channel surf or use a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153guide.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d There are more than a few shows that drew me in by happenstance. AMC\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Breaking Bad\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is my favorite \u00e2\u20ac\u0153accident.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Internet TV is surfing with a net, keeping us in the familiar, and not venturing out into the unexplored.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s from David Worthington <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/reader\/view\/#stream\/user%2F04123195746075491542%2Flabel%2FTechnical\">from the Technologizer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a crazy idea, talk to friends, talk to neighbors, go to TitanTV or the TV Guide web site&#8230; \u00c2\u00a0All of these are neat ways to get ideas on what is on TV, and or to schedule your TV viewing.<\/p>\n<p>Or check your daily newspaper, or subscribe to the Sunday newspaper, they both use to include (I assume they still do) TV listings for your area&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>But, if you want to find accidential gems of TV shows. \u00c2\u00a0I have two words.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">YOU TUBE!<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Go over to youtube, type the keyword &#8220;TV&#8221; and add a random word. \u00c2\u00a0I guarantee you will find something to watch, and possibly find some interesting TV shows you would never watch normally&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Now the question changes, to are these shows still available. \u00c2\u00a0Well&#8230; \u00c2\u00a0That I can&#8217;t help with. \u00c2\u00a0But if you want the ultimate in pain, then type in &#8220;Reality TV shows&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Internet TV is threatening to turn cable TV\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s subscription model on its head with on demand programming and rentals, but there is a key component that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s missing: content discovery.
