Enabling auto logon makes your computer more convenient to use, but\u00c2\u00a0<strong>can pose a security risk since anyone can just turn the machine on and access your files. <\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Mac OS X<\/p>\n<p>This may vary slightly depending on the Version of Mac OS X you are running on. \u00c2\u00a0The steps should be the same, but the positioning of the buttons \/ prompts can\u00c2\u00a0be different&#8230;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Open System Preferences<\/li>\n<li>Choose Accounts<\/li>\n<li>Click on Login Options<\/li>\n<li>Unlock System Preferences (if Necessary)<\/li>\n<li>Click on Automatic Login, and choose from the pop up the account you wish to use. \u00c2\u00a0Verify the password.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Windows XP<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial; line-height: normal; font-size: small;\">You can configure Windows XP to automate the logon process if your computer is <strong>not part of a domain<\/strong>. Computers configured in a business environment generally have a domain and for those machines the option &#8220;Users must enter a username&#8221; is not necessary since\u00c2\u00a0password has to be used\u00c2\u00a0when accessing the local area network or domain.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"font-family: Arial; line-height: normal; font-size: small;\">\n<li>Click <strong>Start<\/strong>, click <strong>Run<\/strong>, and type <strong>control userpasswords2<\/strong>.
