One issue that Time Machine doesn’t seem to resolve well is it’s lock files… I ran into a issue where my mother-in-laws system was reporting “You do not have access privileges to save file “.001ee2057899”.

But of course, when I went to the Time Machine disk, I didn’t see any file named “.001ee2057899”. Here’s where I help anyone that has had this problem. The Finder is hiding the file. It’s obvious in hindsight, but it’s a DOT file. The finder has been programmed to hide any file that starts with a period/dot.

Note, the .001ff3584doc file. Now you can either open a terminal, and then CHMOD the ownership of the file. Or, instead I just deleted the file, and allowed Time Machine to recreate it.

Simply as pie. But I can’t explain why WordPress died when I attempted to copy & paste the Terminal screen capture above. I was forced to substitute the PNG.

Time Machine is generally a very valuable and useful tool, but like any tool when it breaks you need to be able to fix it.
