iPad’s in Space?

The Register has pointed out that an Swiss Television show named “Einstein” wanted to see if an iPad would be able to correctly handle it’s screen rotation in “Zero G”.  So they hired an “Vomit Comet” flight to prove how well it works…

Well, it’s safe to say that an Accelerometer needs to have gravity to correctly detect the acceleration/movement…  At least the current batch in the iPad right now.

Maybe Steve Jobs will see this posting and have the boffins come up with some non-gravity utilizing accelerometers…

Some facts from the Steam (May 2010) Hardware Survey

Here is some interesting facts from the Steam (May 2010) Hardware survey that includes Macintosh hardware….

  • Percentage of Macintosh systems ~ 8.7%
    • Mac OS X 10.6.3     ~6.95%
    • Mac OS X 10.5.8     ~1.40%
    • Mac OS X 10.6        ~ 0.33%
  • That exceeds the percentage (6.95%) of Vista 64 bit systems, but Vista 32 bit trumps it (14.66%)

Beyond that, the hardware survey doesn’t break out the most common Macintosh configurations, but hopefully Steam will elaborate some more on the survey….

Deja Vu? 1979 Gulf oil spill, redux?

I found this on http://scienceblogs.com/grrlscientist/2010/06/gulf_oil_spill_deja_vu_all_ove.php?utm_source=selectfeed&utm_medium=rss

And there are quite a few good points, including the fact that all the “relief” methods that we are using now, failed in 1979 in 200 or so feet of water….  Now they are failing in 5,000 feet of water…
