The UK broadcast time has been listed as 9:00pm on BBC1/BBC1HD.

Showbiz site Deadline are reporting that the actress Arlene Tur has been cast as a surgeon named Vera Juarez in the new series of Torchwood, The New World. The actress is best known on screen for her role as Bebe Arcel in another series by the network Starz, Crash.

A number of names have been associated with the main roles of the series, including Enver Gjokaj (Anthony Ceccoli in Dollhouse) and Chad Michael Murray (Lucas Scott in One Tree Hill) for CIA Agent Rex Matheson, and Amber Stevens (Ashleigh Howard in Greek) as Watch Analyst Esther Katusi – however, apart from the established characters played by John Barrowman (Jack), Eve Myles (Gwen) and Kai Owen (Rhys), no other cast announcements have been made so far.

Well, it appears that the next Torchwood series will be continuing in the vein of an conspiracy / thriller?

Starz have published more details of the upcoming Torchwood co-production with BBC Worldwide. The series is due for transmission in the summer of 2011.

SERIES SYNOPSIS

When C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson investigates a global conspiracy, he finds himself unearthing a threat which challenges the entire human race. The answers seem to lie within an old, secret British institute, known only as Torchwood. But Torchwood was destroyed, years ago, and the keys to the institute are held by its only two survivors – former Police Officer Gwen Cooper, who has long since disappeared along with her husband and child, and the mysterious Captain Jack Harkness, a man whose history seems to stretch back centuries.

With Rex under attack from all sides, in both the US and the UK, he soon discovers there are forces at work within every level of society, determined to stop Torchwood’s return. As a chain of events across the world links together the most disparate and unlikely individuals – including a surgeon, a killer, senators and CEOs – a new Torchwood team takes shape. But this time, the threat is much closer to home, as they realize that their greatest enemy is mankind itself…

If it’s half as good as Torchwood: Children of Earth, then I think we’ll be in good hands.

But, with the move to StarZ…  We’ll have to see how well this holds up…

The Starz pay channel just announced that it has picked up the U.S. rights for a new 10-episode season of Torchwood with all the key players returning. This new version of Torchwood is expected to air during the summer of 2011 on Starz in the U.S. and on BBC One in the U.K.

John Barrowman will return as Captain Jack Harkness and Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper, along with new cast members, as the series takes on a more international scope.

When we heard that Russell T. Davies was working on a U.S. version of Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood for Fox, we were as doubtful as everyone else that Davies brand of queer subversiveness would fly here. And we were right.

According to a statement from BBC Worldwide:

BBC Worldwide Productions and the FOX Broadcasting Company have mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized ‘Torchwood’ format. We are currently in discussion with several interested networks.

The BBC’s Jane Tranter insisted to the Hollywood Reporter that the U.S. Torchwood still isn't dead, and the show, which would reportedly still star John Barrowman as alien-fighter Captain Jack Harkness, is still making progress.

But you don’t need to worry about the BBC trying to create a U.S. version of parent show Doctor Who. Says Tranter: “It may well be confusing to have a British Doctor and an American Doctor at the same time. There is only one Doctor, so I don’t see that happening.”

It is so scary at how well Christopher Eccleston looks just like John Lennon!!!

In Lennon Naked, Christopher Eccleston plays John Lennon in a single film charting his transition from Beatle John to enduring and enigmatic icon. BBC Four will screen this later in their Spring/Summer season – see a clip in the player below. It also sees Eccleston teaming up with Naoko Mori (Toshiko, from Torchwood) again after their appearance together in Doctor Who in 2005.
