Evidently you can’t trust the police that much, at least not the off-duty officers at Miami International Airport…

The Fullerton off-duty Police officer was arrested for stealing an iPad at the TSA checkpoint last month (5/2011).

Excuse me, he shouldn’t be an officer…  He should know that the TSA checkpoints are video “taped”.  He expected to get away with it?  This is a 6+ year veteran of the force, and makes around $86,000 per year.

I’m just disgusted…  Read the article here…  Fullerton Cop Arrested for Stealing iPad at TSA Checkpoint

There was a hydrogen fire and explosion at a renewable fuel station used by government vehicles near Rochester’s airport. The nearby freeway and airport was closed resulting in diverted flights. This may the first major incident at a hydrogen vehicle refueling station. GM has their major fuel cell development center nearby, in the town of Honeoye Falls. The fire occurred when the 18-wheeler tractor truck was transferring hydrogen to the station. The airport press conference reported that airport firefighters responded first and initially waited on the scene deciding how to respond. No news yet if the hard to see flames of hydrogen combustion contributed to this delay. The fueling station is also adjacent to a NY State Trooper station, and a firefighting training facility is a few blocks away.” RossR also provides a Police/FD Radio transcript. Luckily, no one was killed, and only two injured, including the driver.

Well, it appears that the next Torchwood series will be continuing in the vein of an conspiracy / thriller?

Starz have published more details of the upcoming Torchwood co-production with BBC Worldwide. The series is due for transmission in the summer of 2011.

SERIES SYNOPSIS

When C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson investigates a global conspiracy, he finds himself unearthing a threat which challenges the entire human race. The answers seem to lie within an old, secret British institute, known only as Torchwood. But Torchwood was destroyed, years ago, and the keys to the institute are held by its only two survivors – former Police Officer Gwen Cooper, who has long since disappeared along with her husband and child, and the mysterious Captain Jack Harkness, a man whose history seems to stretch back centuries.

With Rex under attack from all sides, in both the US and the UK, he soon discovers there are forces at work within every level of society, determined to stop Torchwood’s return. As a chain of events across the world links together the most disparate and unlikely individuals – including a surgeon, a killer, senators and CEOs – a new Torchwood team takes shape. But this time, the threat is much closer to home, as they realize that their greatest enemy is mankind itself…

If it’s half as good as Torchwood: Children of Earth, then I think we’ll be in good hands.

But, with the move to StarZ…  We’ll have to see how well this holds up…

I won’t say that our police are perfect, but at least I don’t have to wonder if they are dancing in the street, if I need to find one…

Actually, the guy who added a jet engine to a VW Beetle has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford. He claims this is street legal, and even has a snapshot of the police trying to figure out what to charge him with after stopping him on the road. There’s plenty of details and we’re not questioning [Ron Patrick's] competence, but having the intake for the turbine inside the cab of the vehicle seems a bit insane. He remarks that “it’s a little windy but not unbearable”… yeah.

One the same page you’ll find his dual-jet modified scooter.

Well, the police will be busy now…. In Rochester, Ny…

Starting Monday, all homes must have working carbon monoxide detectors in them.

CO is the gas is known as the silent killer, as it has no color or smell.

The new law requires that a detector be installed on the lowest floor that has bedrooms.

Carbon monoxide detectors cost between $20 and $50 and must be replaced every five years.

I know the arguments, I know the reasons…  But really, is this enforceable?  Will the police or Fire dept. be going house to house, and verifying that they are working?  Why not instead just do a public service campaign?

Why?  Because now if for some reason someone notices a bad device, you’ll be fined and potentially sent up the river (yeah, right…).  The keyword here is fined.  It’s an excuse to get some additional cash out of you…

I’m sorry, but I seriously wish that we could force a law through that would require the government to only be able to pass enforceable laws through, and the law would require the enforcement personnel to be indicated where the forces will be coming from.

Passing laws to pass laws is stupid, and creates chaos and confusion.  Both for the enforcers as well as the man on the street….
