Dilbert Creator Scott Adams Tries to Build an Eco-Friendly House

… So the architect — and later your building engineer, too — each asks you to sign a document saying you won’t sue them when beavers eat a load-bearing wall and your entire family is crushed by forest debris. You make the mistake of mentioning this arrangement to your family, and they leave you. But you are not deterred because you’re saving the planet, damn it. You’ll get a new family. A greener one. Your next hurdle is the local planning commission. They like to approve things that are similar to things they’ve approved before. To do otherwise is to risk unemployment. And the neighbors don’t want to live next to a house that looks like a compost pile. But let’s say, for the sake of this fascinating story, that everyone in the planning commission is heavily medicated with medical marijuana and they approve your project over the objections of all of your neighbors, except for the beavers, who are suspiciously flexible. Now you need a contractor who is willing to risk his career to build this cutting-edge structure. Good luck with that.'”

NetNewswire? I have to do what to get support?

Well, I haven’t been usingNetNewsWire in a while, especially since it has a tendency to start spewing Flash errors to the console when hidden…  Or it’s been open for too long, or …..

My last communication with them was via their own dedicated forums, so I was surprised to read from Kirk McElhearn that they are now only supporting NNW via Google Groups public forums, for both paid and non-paid users.

So let me get this straight….

  • I paid for NNW
  • I paid for an “upgrade” when NNW was purchased by NewsGator (if memory serves me correct)

Brent doesn’t seem to be supporting the package, with any significant dedication…  Or at least I have heard of almost no upgrades / updates since June 14th 2010….

While I’m not completely happy, I am almost exclusively dealing with Google Reader now.

Take alook at Kirk’s complaints, I think you might find some good information…  Kirkville » Why Do I Have To Create a Google Account to Get Support for Third-Party Software?.

A gustatory adventure in the deleted scene from Neil Gaiman’s upcoming Doctor Who script

AMY

Is it something people can eat?

(to Doctor)

Shouldn’t you scan it with your screwdriver or something?

THE DOCTOR

Why would I scan food with my screwdriver?

AMY

See if it’s safe?

The Doctor leans over, dips his finger into his bowl, tastes it.

THE DOCTOR

Some unusual trace elements, smidge too much background radiation, but, yeah, very yummy.

Amy is about to try some of his food… he stops her.

THE DOCTOR (cont’d)

No. Don’t put it in your mouth.

AMY

Not for humans?

THE DOCTOR

Not for you. Tastes like Marmite on socks.
